The patch is a .zip archive that contains several files. These files provide support for Chrome version 42.
Support for this version was not included in TestExecute version 10.60.3387 and it is provided as a patch now.
The archive includes the following files and folders:
To install the patch, follow these steps:
Unpack the files from the archive to a temporary folder.
Important: Close TestExecute if it is running, and close Chrome if it is running.
Create a backup copy of the files mentioned in the Archive Structure section.
To back up the files, copy the original files from the <TestExecute 10> folder to another folder.
Replace the files in subfolders of the <TestExecute 10> folder with the new files from the temporary folder.
Since version 42, by default Chrome blocks all NPAPI extensions, including the TestComplete Chrome Extension that TestExecute uses. To enable NPAPI support:
By default, Chrome ver. 25 and later disables all third-party extensions. This is done to reduce the number of extensions that affect Chrome’s functionality and performance.
Since TestExecute interacts with Google Chrome via the TestComplete Chrome Extension, the latter is disabled as well. So, in order to perform web testing in Chrome ver. 25 and later, you need to enable the TestComplete Chrome Extension manually.
To enable the extension:
You need to enable the extension only once, after the extension has been installed. After you do this, you can run TestExecute and test web pages displayed in Chrome ver. 42.
Note: If your testing environment is deployed automatically, enabling the extension manually is not an acceptable option. In this case, you can add the TestComplete Chrome Extension to the list of force-installed Chrome extensions. Read about the workaround and its limitations.
The present patch is cumulative. It contains features that were available in earlier TestExecute patches for Chrome.
You can install the patch over earlier patches (you can simply overwrite the files). The functionality provided by the earlier patch installed on your computer will still be available.
To restore the Chrome modules that are provided by the original TestExecute installation, re-install TestExecute or replace the copied files with their backup copies.
