Chrome Patches for TestExecute 10 - Installation Notes

The patch is a .zip archive that contains several files. These files provide support for Chrome version 32.
Support for this version was not included in TestExecute version 10.0.531 and it is provided as a patch now.

Archive Structure

The archive includes the TestExecute 10\Bin\Extensions folder that contains the following files:

Installing the Patch

To install the patch, follow these steps:

  1. Unpack the files from the archive to a temporary folder.

  2. Important: Close TestExecute if it is running, and close Chrome if it is running.

  3. Create a backup copy of the files mentioned in the Archive Structure section.

To back up the files, copy the original files from the <TestExecute 10>\Bin\Extensions folder to another folder.

  4. Replace the tcCrHook.dll and tcOpenAppsWeb.pls files in the <TestExecute 10>\Bin\Extensions folder with the new files from the temporary folder.

Enabling the TestComplete Chrome Extension

By default, Chrome ver. 25 and later disables all third-party extensions. This is done to reduce the number of extensions that affect Chrome’s functionality and performance.

Since TestExecute interacts with Google Chrome via the TestComplete Chrome Extension, the latter is disabled as well. So, in order to perform web testing in Chrome ver. 25 and later, you need to enable the TestComplete Chrome Extension manually.

To enable the extension:

  1. Launch Chrome.
  2. Select Tools | Extensions in Chrome’s main menu, or navigate to the chrome://chrome/extensions/ page.
  3. Locate SmartBear TestComplete Extension in the list and click the Enable check box.

You need to enable the extension only once, after the extension has been installed. After you do this, you can run TestExecute and test web pages displayed in Chrome ver. 32.

Note: If your testing environment is deployed automatically, enabling the extension manually is not an acceptable option. In this case, you can add the TestComplete Chrome Extension to the list of force-installed Chrome extensions. Read about the workaround and its limitations.

If You Use Earlier Patches …

The present patch is cumulative. It contains features that were available in earlier TestExecute patches for Chrome.

You can install the patch over earlier patches (you can simply overwrite the files). The functionality provided by the earlier patch installed on your computer will still be available.

Restoring Chrome Support Modules

To restore the Chrome modules that are provided by the original TestExecute installation, re-install TestExecute or replace the copied files with their backup copies.
